Moving a shop or a trade unit
Retail moves run to a completely different clock from office moves. An office that is disrupted for a day is inconvenient. A shop that is shut for a day has simply lost that day, and if the fit-out at the new unit is not finished it loses several more.
The first consequence is that the sequence matters more than the speed. Fittings and shelving need to arrive and be installed before the stock does, because stock with nowhere to go sits in boxes in the middle of the floor and slows everything else down. Where a fit-out is being done by somebody else, their finish date is your start date, and it is worth confirming it rather than assuming it.
The second is that stock is almost always underestimated. People count it in products, which tells us nothing useful. What we need is shelves, rails, pallets or boxes, plus a note of anything heavy for its size, which in practice means anything liquid, tinned or metal.
The third is timing within the week. Most independents here move on a Sunday or overnight, so the shop closes on one trading day and opens on the next. That is entirely achievable, and it needs the fittings to have gone in beforehand rather than on the same night.

And if you take card payments, check whether your terminal can run on mobile data, because a shop that cannot take money is a shop that is shut whatever the sign on the door says.
The other thing frequently forgotten is the number itself. If customers ring a landline, work out well in advance whether it is moving with you, being diverted, or being replaced. A number that simply stops working is worse than a shop that is closed, because the customer assumes the business has gone.
Moving a small business without a facilities team
Most businesses in this borough are small enough that nobody has moving premises in their job description. The person organising it is usually also running the company, and doing it around a normal week.
