If your street has restrictions and the van needs a council permit to stand where we need it, we arrange it. You do not need to know which form it is, how many days’ notice it takes, or what it costs. It appears on your quote and we handle the rest.
Checked before we quote
Narrow terraced streets, no driveway, a flat with no lift, a long carry from wherever the van can legally stop. We look at this before quoting, so the price we give you is the price that holds.
Working out what will actually fit
Bedroom counts are a poor guide, and getting it wrong means a second trip. We work it out from what you actually own, not what the estate agent called the house.

How a move with us actually works
Nobody explains this, and it is the thing people most want to know.
- When you get in touch
Tell us where you are moving from and to, roughly how big the property is, and anything you already know is awkward. Two minutes is enough to start.
- Your quote
Written, itemised, with VAT shown separately, so you can see what you are paying for. Book 30 days or more ahead and that price is held for 14 days while you sort your dates out.
- Once you book
We confirm the plan, tell you if the parking needs arranging, and let you know what would be helpful to have ready. If a midweek date would save you money, we will say so rather than quietly taking the Friday booking.
- The week before
Anything needing a council permit gets sorted at our end. If you have chosen packing, we agree when we are coming.
- Moving day
You do not need to direct anybody or carry anything. If there is anything you are particularly worried about, a floor, a doorway, one specific item, say so at the start of the day rather than halfway through.
- At the new place
Tell us which rooms things belong in, or label the boxes and we will follow them. Either works, and it saves you moving things twice.
Moving day tends to go wrong for one reason
Keys.
Almost everything else can be planned around. Completion running late cannot, because a loaded van and a crew are standing outside a house nobody can get into.
There is not much any removals firm can do about a slow solicitor, but there are two things that genuinely help. Push for a realistic completion time rather than an optimistic one, and tell us early if the chain looks shaky so we can build the day around it. A move planned with a delay in mind runs far better than one that assumes everything lands on time.
If you would rather not risk it at all, ask us about moving midweek or mid-month. Fridays and month-ends are when everybody completes at once, which is exactly why they are the most expensive and the most likely to slip.
Just ask
Plenty of things are not automatically part of a standard move, but almost all of them can be arranged if you mention them when you book:
- Taking beds and wardrobes apart, and putting them back together
- Disconnecting and reconnecting appliances
- Packing, either the whole house or just the kitchen and the breakables
- Lofts, sheds, greenhouses and garden equipment
- Storage, if your dates do not line up
None of this is a problem in advance. All of it is a problem at eight o’clock on the morning. If in doubt, tell us and we will fold it into the quote.
What to keep with you
One genuinely useful bit of advice that will save you worry on the day. Some things should travel with you rather than in the van, and it is worth putting them in one bag the night before:
- Jewellery, watches and anything valuable and small
- Cash, passports, deeds and documents
- Laptops, tablets and phones
- Medication, chargers, and a change of clothes
- Keys for both properties
- Anything with sentimental value that cannot be replaced
Also worth knowing: plants and pets cannot travel in a removals van, so they will need a seat in your car. Nor can anything flammable, so paint tins, gas bottles, aerosols and garden fuel should be used up or disposed of before the day.
Do this and the only thing you will be carrying on moving day is a kettle and a bag of teabags.

Small things that make moving day easy
None of this is essential. All of it makes the day noticeably better, and it costs nothing.
Pack a first-night box and put it in your car
Kettle, mugs, teabags, toilet roll, hand soap, phone chargers, bedding and a change of clothes. It is the difference between sitting down with a brew at seven o’clock and still opening boxes at midnight looking for the kettle.
Label by room, not by contents
“Kitchen” gets a box to the right room in one go. “Assorted pans” means somebody has to stop and think about it, forty times over.
Tell us the awkward bits early
The piano. The loft. The wardrobe that was clearly built inside the room. The neighbour who parks across the entry. Nothing here surprises us, and knowing in advance means we turn up with the right kit and the right number of people.
Do the fiddly rooms first
Everyone starts with the easy stuff and leaves the garage, the loft and the shed until the night before. Those are the ones that take three times longer than expected.
If your dates move
Chains slip. It happens on a large number of moves and it is almost never anybody’s fault.
Tell us as soon as you know, even if the new date is not confirmed yet. Early warning gives us room to move things around and gives you far more choice of replacement dates. A date changed three weeks out is straightforward. The same change the night before is a much harder conversation for everyone.
If your completion date is looking uncertain when you book, say so then. We would rather plan around it from the start than pretend it will be fine.

Do I need to arrange parking?

Do I need to empty the wardrobes and drawers?
Tell us when you book and we will advise. It depends on the furniture and how far you are going.
What if completion runs late?
We will wait, and waiting time is charged by the hour, so it is worth pushing your solicitor for a realistic time. Tell us early if the chain looks uncertain and we will plan the day around it.
Can you move my plants?
Not in the van, and the same goes for pets. They will need to travel with you.
